The 2008 National Conference of Cancer Self Help Groups was a great success
Nutricia was pleased to sponsor the National Conference of Cancer Self Help Groups (NCCSHG) which took place in Manchester between the 26th and 29th June.
Bringing together support groups, cancer patients, family members and carers as well as health care professionals the conference encourages all those affected by cancer, to share their experience, knowledge and strength with each other. The atmosphere created is a safe, relaxed and positive environment which aims to help individuals improve the quality of their personal cancer journey. Nutricia held workshops at the conference which gave attendees practical and insightful information about the importance of nutrition in cancer. The work shops incorporated the advice from the Nutrition in Cancer website Dietitian who answers the ‘Ask the Expert’ service, literature to take away and share in their groups, as well the opportunity to taste Fortisip and Fortijuce based high calorie jellies and ice cubes which slipped down a treat! Those attending the workshops shared the problems they encountered during and after cancer treatment and those involved in support groups highlighted the issues that their members frequently faced with everyone trading experiences and suggestions.
Nicola Davies who ran the Nutrition in Cancer groups said, "It's a great feeling knowing that we have helped so many people over the course of one weekend. People left the group with a wealth of knowledge, feeling encouraged and having discovered hints, tips and recipes that they can pass on to others experiencing weight loss and eating and drinking difficulties".
Next year promises to be even bigger and better as 2009 will see the NCCSHG celebrate their 25th anniversary.
