Lactose

Disaccharide also known as milk sugar, formed by glucose and galactose and present in mammal's milk. In order to be absorded by our body, lactose must be broken down into the two simple sugars of glucose and galactose by an enzyme called lactase. People suffering from lactose intolerance cannot breakdown lactose into the two sugars because of a partial or total lack of lactase.
