Alongside advice from leading Oncology and Nutritional Experts patients learn from each other. Every cancer patient has their own story, which means sharing them can help each other learn. Whether the story is about patients going-through, overcoming or they have similar experiences, So this page is set up to allow patients to share and read others stories.


  • Jennie’s story

    In March 2007 Jennie Wren found the lymph gland in her neck was enlarged. She went to her GP who thought it might be glandular fever but results of a blood test gave the all clear. Still concerned Jennie saw an Ear, Nose and Throat consultant and, after several tests and a CT scan, she received the shocking news that she had Squamous Carcinoma of the right tonsil.

    Jennie was immediately booked in for a tonsillectomy at the Oncology Unit at Haywards Heath Hospital in West Sussex, but this was just the beginning of Jenny’s cancer journey and here she shares her story of overwhelming heartache and inspirational survival…

  • Hilary´s story

    Hilary Dearden is a survivor and within minutes of speaking to her it’s clear why. Sheer determination and will power has seen this 60 year-old from Oldham through a tough two years, including misdiagnosis, a dramatic life-saving gastrectomy, and learning to live without a stomach!

    Before going into hospital for a full Gastrectomy in 2004, 56 year-old Glyn Wyld didn’t know what to expect so increased his food intake to ‘bulk up’ and allow for a little weight loss that might happen afterwards.  In fact, after the operation Glyn lost 56lbs (4 stone) and dropped to a worrying 8 stone.  Now, thankfully in remission, Glyn shares his story in the hope he can help others…

  • Florence's story

    A high-dose intense course of chemotherapy resulted in severe side effects for 67-year-old Florence Sinkins from Christchurch.  Not only did she suffer nausea, sore mouth and taste alterations, Florence lost a stone in weight from the treatment’s side effects.
